St Croix is beautiful and worth high consideration for a visitor looking a relaxed vacation with great snorkeling, historical sites and colorful towns.

Although one of the largest refineries in the world (HOVENSA) is on the small island (28 X 7 miles) it does not affect the exceptional living conditions enjoyed by the locals and tourists.

St Croix is about forty miles south of St Thomas and a little off the beaten path for most cruise ships. Few call at the port of Fredericksted (population 830) on the west coast. Fredericksted is a town of pastel enjoyments with a small fort and a slow pace of life. While I was waiting for a taxi one of the drivers complained a local woman was talking too loudly and had an official go and ask her to moderate her tone. She was about a hundred feet away from us and I hardly noticed.

The island boasts an exceptional botanical garden and the Cruzan Rum Distillery where I had an intoxicating experience.

Great scenery and inviting beaches beckon visitors. The interior has several US like shopping centers. Driving is oddly on the left in mostly left hand drive vehicles made in the states. Fortunately the roads are not as congested as on the mainland.

On the eastern side of the island the larger town of Christiansted (population 3000) has another interesting Dutch fort, enticing small shops and pubs and a good anchorage for small sailing craft. Although this is the largest town on the island it has no accommodation for larger ships.

St Croix may be my new favorite island.

Giant Hug Cindy!

Not to scare you, but I will probably be in Las Vegas the 1st part of October. Mark's daughter's birthday is the 4th & her friends are meeting there. We are invited too, LOL!
