I noticed on the last booking flyer that Saba replaced Statia in the islands to be visited by the Sagitta... I was wondering if this is a now the weekly intended stop.??...Statia has become a very commercial Seaport with the oil tankers there and Saba does retain that old Dutch charm and has nice snorkeling but a wee more difficult to traverse..What's the scoop??

I would love to go to Saba but I think it is a very rough dock.

Sagitta stops at Saba some weeks. Other weeks an additional half day in St Barth's is added (by popular demand), or the occasional Tintamarre beach day. Statia is seldom visited nowadays, as the majority of guests don't care for it.

There is nothing wrong with the anchorage in Saba--that was a lot of hype, apparently! It seems that it's best to ignore the rumors, and just venture out and see for yourself. :D

Landings in Saba are much improved over the "olden days" when the island men would row out to collect you from your ship. The harbor now has a nice wave-busting sea wall that makes arrival/departure a snap and the taxis are right there to give you a tour ... there is also a very nice restaurant/bar located at the foot of the hill (beginning of The Road) where you can enjoy a snack or a beverage while awaiting the launch.

There are a number of excellent videos available on the internet if you want a quick preview of the island. On some, you will see the underwater marine park; others feature glimpses of places like Jo Bean's glass gallery, Willard's hotel/restaurant, the hike up Mt. Scenery, etc. If you find a clip called "Saba Rollercoaster" watch it - but be warned (and take your Dramamine first).

I see that this thread was last replied to a year ago, but interested to know which island is presently being visited... Sagitta, on website, still says Statia. We have visited and stayed on both before, with many visits to Saba, and really would enjoy a day there, but if it were Statia, that would be fine. Just curious, as to whether which island it will be...

Sagitta happens to be in Saba today but I have no idea if she goes there every week or if the choices mentioned above still stand. You can follow her route live on marinetraffic.com
