Went there on the Poly in 2005. Had a real neat time hiking up a valley till we came to a small pool with water flowing out of a cave. Swam in the very cold water into the cave to a waterfall. After coming back out there was a spring with warm water to help get the chill off.

Went to Dominica on Sagitta in July. It was awesome. We went snorkeling on the Champagne reef. Bubbles rise from the sea floor just like champagne bubbles! We swam through them, hovered over them, it was great. We also tubed down a river. The scenery was beautiful. The fresh water was wonderful. Saw lots of birds.

"small pool with (very cold!) water flowing out of a cave” is Titou Gorge. Been there twice (Mandalay 2000, 2003): great fun! Snorkeling through champaign bubbles (Mandalay ’00, ’03; Sagitta ’14): a not-to-be-missed experience! On my Sagitta ’14 trip I took the rowboat ride up the Indian River: scenic and interesting. Next time on Dominica I’ll do the tubing adventure; shipmates who did that loved it. Nancy

If you go to Rousseau go to a bar called the Ruins. He mixes his own rum and spices and it is good and very strong. And the bottles are hand painted. Kay told me about the place back in 2008.

The Ruins has changed. They now have regular bottles - manufactured labels. But, the rum is just as good and they still have all the varieties.

Dominica is one of my favorite islands. I love to just walk around town. The people are so friendly. And, if during season, the street vendors have some really nice things at reasonable prices. They prefer American dollars and EC. They refused to accept Euros when I was there a couple of years ago. And, they do not speak much French - they prefer to consider themselves an independent island...

Down on the other end of the island, Big Daddy's bar is right on the beach and may serve a very nice lunch. There is no menu, and they may not have been to the grocery in a while. They also had a Friday night BBQ with live music and dancing.
