Just back from the first sailing of the "new' Diamant, and she IS a beauty....as she always has been! I'll post some photos soon, but so much that is "new" about her is not all that visible. All new wiring, all new plumbing, A/C in the salon and re-built tables and bench seating, an enlarged galley, fresh new cushions everywhere--with new colors" bright yellows and oranges, new carpet in cabins, freshly painted hull. She now has only 5 cabins, with all new wood, cabinets, beds.....and basically the same layouts as before.

The new owner's cabin (#1) is fabulous! It is large, four portholes, a very large (and comfy) bed, and a very nice seating area. Bathroom is cozy! Only suggestion is that the portholes need covers/curtains. At Diamant's dock in Port Louis, the starboard ones (including bathroom) are eye level for those on the dock or for a boat berthed next door. We stuffed towels in them.

Owners Cabin/1 (old cabins 1 & 2)
Cabin 2 (old cabin 4 location and layout)
Cabin 3 (old cabin 3 location and layout)
Cabin 4 (old cabin 6 location and layout)
Cabin 5 (old cabin 5 location and layout)
All of the above are wonderful, and with good stowage....to me, the best of any of the IWJ Island Girls' cabins (altho I haven't seen Sagitta's or Vela's owners' cabins).

Our first week on the "new" Diamant was just so much fun. First, we got to meet Liz! She escorted us all on board and then went out on a boat, following Diamant as we left the port, taking photos of her under sail. We lucked out with two of IWJ's premo captains: Capt. Phillip and Capt. Nervo. Since this was Diamant's "first" sail, Nervo went along to tackle any issues that might pop up (Liz said: He can fix anything!). As far as I know, nothing needed fixing. Or if it did, the crew must have quickly/efficiently taken care of it! Great crew...we had only sailed with Barney (chef) before. We had Omar (engineer, and the one who rewired the ship), Bolo (chief steward), and Roy (bosun). What a great team! And Barney's meals....wow.....! And, of course, he runs a mean Pirate Farkle game.

Super week, beautiful ship, great crew, wonderful food.......and THAT'S A SCORE!!! (to quote Barney at the Farkle table!)

I'll try to get my photos up within the next day.

Thanks, Julie

I agree with Sandra, I can't wait to see her in person. Except I don't have a reservation on Diamant to look forward to. Guess I need to rectify that.

still think a shelve along the bulkhead of the bunk would be a good idea of those daily small items )ie : glasses , reading books, medicines, loose change , ect)
