Mayreau is only about 1.5 sq miles and usually has a population of less than 300. It flies the flag of St Vincent and the currency is the East Caribbean Dollar although the USD works as well. Old Wall Village is the only town. The only road runs between Saline Bay on one side of the island up a steep hill and down the other side to Saltwhistle Bay. No one who has ever been there and has crossed by foot from one bay to the other will ever forget the place. Another way to get from bay to bay is to pay $5 for a ride in a small wooden boat.

Climbing steep hills every day must be very life extending. The age of those marked on tomb stones in the small cemetery is astounding. Others consider the very relaxed way of life or the fact many pubs are located on the climb the life extending benefit. Whatever, all who have made the pub crawl will remember Mayreau fondly.

Memories.... we love Mayreau!!!! Actually spent several days there at Dennis' Hideway a few years ago when Oxford was working for Uncle Denny. We were treated like royalty. The chef wants to know when and what you want for breakfast, etc. The chef packed us a lunch to take over to Salt Whistle Bay as the resort was closed for slow season. Spent a lot of time talking to Dennis. What a hoot! And of course, we all remember the "cultural tours." Right??? A must visit is the school. I know they really miss Windjammers, and their generosity.

I love these mini tours! Thanks Tim for all the work for so much enjoyment! Goood memories....The Kid was looking at them too.

Tuck sent The Kid photos of the cemetery and I had some of Salt Whistle Bay. The first one is The Kid in 04. I fell off that tree when The Kid took that photo of me! Needless to say, it won't be posted here!

Amy thank you for sharing your pictures including the one I stole. It is always interesting to see how others see the same place. In most of my pictures I try to leave people out unless the subject matter involves people. Many of yours are educational and most often people take pictures to include friends, family or activity.

I am very grateful to those of you willing to share pictures. The general idea of the mini tours is a reference for those who have not been to a particular island or would like to reminisce about their fond memories of having been to a certain island. If a picture is worth a thousand words eventually we can have a great visual library.

I have almost expended my mini tours and if someone would like to add an island or two the rest of us would be appreciative. I have some material on Trinidad and St Vincent and am willing to do them. If anyone has pictures or information to contribute that would be great.

Thanks to all for your kind thoughts about the mini tours. It has been a lot of fun doing them and I very much enjoyed revisiting the islands.

Thanks, guys!! This is a great tour. I've been to Mayreau on Diamant 4 times, but I have a bad back and can't make "the culture walk," so this is especially nice for me to be able to see what everyone raves about! Gorgeous!
