Beware pirates! There is a new hurricane named Irma heading west from Africa and predicted to near the islands in 5 days. Does not look good.

Well, we just spent the entire morning canceling our Pirate Week on Vela. IWJ is watching closely what is happening with Irma, but since sail day is not til Sunday, no final decision yet. We were to fly out this morn from LAX, which meant driving 2 hrs to LA, then flying to Miami, onite there, then flying to Grenada tomorrow and staying 2 nights at True Blue pre Vela. We couldn't wait and the National Hurricane Center's info was enough to concern us.....a lot. surrender
IWJ offered us the option to postpone at no cost to us, after a lot of thought (a whole lot), we took that option. heartbeat Even if Irma, which is predicted to go to Cat 4 or even 5 by Tue, makes a north turn (she's headed directly at the Lesser Antilles now as a Cat 2), it looks like Miami to Carolinas will then be in her path. Our other concern was whether AA would cancel flights, to and from Grenada, leaving us stranded in Miami or Grenada. Rolling Eyes
We opted to go with our heads instead of our hearts. Prayers that the ships, the people and the islands will be safe. blowkiss
*** To check on Irma, et al: nhc.noaa.gov

Note: True Blue Bay Hotel, which required us to pay in full in advance re our two nights there, says no refund of our money because we canceled less than 7 days in advance (!!??!!).
We've used that hotel 2x prior, but we won't use it again. Hopefully, our trip insurance will cover that cost. :steamed

Know it was a difficult decision but a wise one. Better safe than sorry. Kudos for IWJ giving you an option but bad True Blue!!

Julie and Jeff,
I think, you made the right decision. This storm looks BAD. They are predicting category 3 by the end of today. I think you will be happier pirates. As for Tru Blu, not very nice.
