• Grenada (the spice island) is a friendly place with perhaps the most beautiful harbor in the Caribbean. The harbor is referred to as the “Carenage” and is an interesting and colorful place to walk around. Grenada has a beach, Grand Anse, to rival any in the world.

The rain forest provides waterfalls and nature trails to satisfy the desires of hikers at all levels of skill or ambition.

Grenada is the home port of Island Windjammers and the location of the annual Jump Ups.

• Below are the basic facts as I present them for cruise passengers. Feel free to post pictures and suggested places to see at the end of this tour.

Carib Indians inhabited Grenada when Columbus discovered the island in 1498.
• The French settled Grenada in the 17th century, established sugar estates, and imported large numbers of African slaves. Britain took the island in 1762. In the 20th century, nutmeg became the leading export.
• Full independence from Britain was attained in 1974, making Grenada one of the smallest independent countries in the Western Hemisphere.
• Grenada was seized by a Marxist military council on 19 October 1983. Six days later the island was invaded by US forces and those of six other Caribbean nations, which quickly captured the ringleaders and their hundreds of Cuban advisers. Free elections were reinstituted the following year and have continued since that time.
• Hurricane Ivan struck Grenada in September of 2004 causing severe damage
•
• Currency: EC Dollar = $2.70 to $1 USD
• Language: English
• Population: 90,343 (July 08 est.)
• Life expectancy: 65.6 years
• Average income: $10,500 (estimates vary)

I'm ready and don't even need to pack - I can wear a bathing suit on the plane, right?

Might get a little chilly. But you could wear it under your shorts and t-shirt. That way you don't have to worry about underwear!

Hi Jacquie

Most of the pictures of Grenada I took at this year's Jump Up with a Canon S3, some of the smaller older pictures were scanned in from albums full of pictures I had taken on earlier cruises with film cameras

In some of the other Mini Tours I used a Canon S1 and all of the Key West pictures I took with my new Canon SX10. I really like the new one it is a 10 Mega pixel with 20 times optical and an image stabilizer.

Most of the maps come from the Internet or I just take a picture of one (Key West). There are four or five pictures I did not take, example the Ariel over St Kitts. The Ariel over San Juan I took.

Humm, I hadn't thought of that. And the poster, Gafia, is a new member. So, Gafia, if you are reading this, you need to log in to see the pix.
