Bequia Mini Tour

Bequia is a wonderful little (7 sq miles) island 10 miles south of St Vincent. It has a population of about 5000. The currency is the East Caribbean Dollar. It belongs to the nation of St Vincent which is about an hour ferry ride away.

Port Elizabeth in Admiralty Bay is where we dock. The town is small but interesting. It has some small businesses where gifted artisans make model boats in various sizes and at not inexpensive prices. Still a very good souvenir if you can afford it and are confident you can get it home in one piece.

A popular attraction is the Turtle Farm where turtles are raised and then returned to the sea. Moon hole with its fascinating stone houses built into the cliffs is another. Though most of the Moon houses are uninhabited one called Moonrise is available for vacation stays. www.moonhole.com Check out the interior.

Mac’s Pizzeria is famous for its lobster pizza. Along the water front are many fun places to have a drink. If the music starts to play just push the tables back and start dancing.

I wish I had more pictures to share but twice when I was here I sailed off to Mystique on the Passion. If someone has more please share. If you have trouble loading photos I will be glad to help.

Jimmy Buffet is reported to have called Bequia his favorite Caribbean Island.

Think that lot is still for sale? Looking for farmland, that would fit the ticket!

Bequia updates
IWJ offers a tour of Bequia that has to be at $30 one of the best bargains ever. I had done it years ago and was going to pass but very glad I changed my mind. The tour given by Noel included “Gun Hill” the Turtle Sanctuary, the Whaling Museum and some great views. Noel’s family was for generations in the boat building business as well as being whalers.

Bequia is little, but it is mighty in history and in preserving that history.
I believe it's also the island with the master miniature boat builder's woodshop is located. Amazing work. As said above, the Bequia tour is well worth it, and we've taken it, the woodshop was included. Pretty island.
