My church was shocked how fast IWJ, a company moved to help the downislanders. I'm not in the least surprised.

Liz posted this on the donation site today (Wed 10/4): Total: $15,415 and:

Our Amerijet shipment of supplies is leaving Miami on Thursday. We are very grateful to Mr Lenny Perez of JP Shipping in Miami for donating all warehouse and handling fees for this large amount of freight. Diamant will be leaving for Dominica approximately one week from today. Your donations have purchased large amounts of canned and dried foods, personal hygiene products, diapers, water carriers, solar lanterns, tarps, hammers, nails, sheet plastic, and six chainsaws. Thank you all, and we will continue to keep you posted!

Hooray for IWJ and the Shantyites! hug

If memory serves me right, Dominica used its abundant volcanic thermal water to make electricity. I wonder how that fared. I remember huge tubes that directed the water down the mountain to the hydro electric plant. As the tubes were erected on a cleared path of the rainforest I'm suspecting huge slides of mud and debris from the rains and winds of the storm.

Is the fundraiser over and how is Diamant faring in its travels? The pictures of the devastation are overwhelming. One wonders how our islander friends pickup and start over year after year from these monster storms.

Though I don't remember what island, I have a vivid memory of a yellow school bus wrapped around a tree and that tree over years entwining itself around the wreckage. That memory may have been of Dominica.

IWJ truly does care hug

I'm thinking that bus is at the botanical garden on St.Vincent.
